What is the Rollins Road Gateway Study?

The goal of the Rollins Road Gateway Study is to improve the intersection of Rollins Road and IL Route 83. The existing intersection suffers from operational challenges due to a number of factors, including:

The study team will reach out to affected stakeholders, including city leaders, businesses, residents and organizations. Through the public involvement process the project team will create opportunities for public participation as the preliminary design and environmental process develops. The public involvement process affords a wide range of stakeholders an opportunity to express concerns, to explain any existing issues or to present ideas for improvement. The process will follow IDOT guidelines for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) public involvement requirements.

Multiple alternatives will be developed that satisfy the purpose and need of the project. The project team will evaluate each alternative based on environmental and ecological impacts, efficiency of design and cost effectiveness. The alternatives will be presented at a public information meeting. Input received from the public involvement process will play an important role in the selection of a preferred alternative.

The project study can be complex, with numerous factors to consider before reaching an effective conclusion. Communication between the public and the decision makers is essential to ensure that the appropriate information is available regarding the consequences of each course of action.
